REVIEWER QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What is Design Portfolio Review Remote?

Design Portfolio Review Remote is a new and effective way for employers to meet talented RISD students and share their professional expertise. The event is open to juniors, seniors and graduate level students who will come prepared to present their portfolio and to receive your feedback and insights.

Students sign up on a first come first served basis for a meeting on your schedule/s. You'll receive your schedule in advance including student's resumes and links to their portfolios. After the event, you will receive a resume packet including all students with interests in your company for your consideration.

What is the schedule?

For your convenience, the Design Portfolio Review Remote will be hosted over two days. You are welcome to register to attend one or both days and select the hours you’d like to
participate. You'll receive your schedule of student meetings in advance including their
resumes and links to their portfolios.

Schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday

5:45pm - 5:55pm ET

Welcome Webinar presented by the RISD Career Center Team.

6:00pm - 9:00pm ET

Portfolio review remote meetings begin promptly at 6:00pm ET and run in 15 minute increments with two breaks at 7:00pm and 8:00pm and the last meeting ending at 9:00pm.

Reviewers are welcome to customize their availability.

How do I meet with students?

Each schedule features a video conference link, provided by you, the reviewer, that students will use at their designated meeting time. Multiple, simultaneous schedules will have a unique link per schedule.

Students are advised to join their scheduled portfolio review no sooner than one minute early. Their arrival shows they are ready for their upcoming review and that it is likely time to conclude the current review meeting.

Who should attend?

Designers, creative directors, principals, human resource professionals, and talent acquisition staff/recruiters who can provide comments and feedback on students' portfolios are welcome to attend. We encourage companies to have multiple staff in attendance to meet with as many students as possible.

If you have RISD alumni on staff, we hope they will attend! Alumni can be excellent advocates for your company and can offer unique insights to students on how they can translate RISD studio work into a strong portfolio in application for your opportunities.

How much does it cost?

$75 flat fee with unlimited representatives and schedules.

Why is Zoom the recommended video conferencing platform?

How should I manage my student Interviewees?

Preparation and familiarity with your platform will ensure a productive meeting for both parties. The Zoom waiting room feature can prevent incoming students from disrupting your meetings in-progress. And if you have an additional staff member that can serve as receptionist, you may be interested in Zoom breakout rooms

Students are instructed to join their scheduled meeting no more than one minute in advance. Watch the clock to end your meetings promptly out of respect for your next student interviewee.

Testing your remote meeting with someone outside of your corporate network is strongly advised and we are glad to help! Reach out at risdcareers@risd.edu to test drive your remote meeting to avoid technical issues that can disrupt your fast-paced schedule.

IMPORTANT: The free version of Zoom has a 45-minute limit on all meetings and will not be compatible with this event.

Does RISD support remote internships?

Yes! The following Guidelines for Remote Internships are highly recommended for effective remote internship experiences. These guidelines are based on NACE best practices and were used successfully by over 100+ employers who have hired RISD students since summer 2020.
